Founded in 1985 to provide specialist quality and environmental certification services, CICS has grown rapidly in the emerging environmental field of greenhouse gas (GHG) verification.
- In July 1987 CICS were awarded UKAS accreditation for Quality Management Systems Certification.
- This was followed in October 1988 by accreditation for Product Conformity Certification Schemes.
- In mid 2002 CICS became the first accredited Verifier for UK Climate Change Agreement (CCA) participants.
- On 8th November 2000 CICS achieved UKAS accreditation for Environmental Management System Certification.
- By March 2003 CICS had become UK market leader for CCA verification.
- In June 2004 CICS became the first accredited Verifier under the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) for UK baseline work.
- By January 2005 CICS had become UK market leader for EU ETS baseline verification with over 50% market share.
- On 25th May 2005, CICS became the first verifier approved to operate in Ireland.
- On 31st March 2007 CICS market share increased further to a combined 70% of the UK and Republic of Ireland EU ETS CO2 emissions.
- October 2007 saw CICS awarded official UKAS accreditation for Dispersed Oil in Produced Water Verification, making them the first certification body to achieve this.
